CONSTRUCTION OF LATRINE AND WASHROOM
Infinity Ideas Network with funds from members of St. John’s United Reformed Church in New Barnet, UK have undertaken a construction project for a Girls washroom and pit latrine at Good Samaritan School for the Deaf- Kitengeesa to enable Deaf children have a safe, clean and equipped environment to study and practice good personal hygiene behaviors and have access to proper/ improved sanitation facility.
A 50+ foot deep pit has been dug out and is now safely covered-up so as to keep the rain and the children out. Large piles of bricks, sand and gravel were delivered by numerous trucks ready to start the construction and the ground footing was measured several times to make sure that the foundation is laid and the walls are well erected.
There has been a lot of rain which has held up the progress of the construction but the contractors are working tirelessly six days a week, aiming that the project is done and the children are able to use the facility by end of June 2021 provided the weather eases.
The new building is being established on a 30ft x 20ft and will provide 6 toilet cubicles and 6 washroom cubicles. 2 large shower cubicles with seats will be for girls with additional physical impairment like Najjuuko Justine and for the young ones.
These will be better facilities than most of the girls have been used to at school, in the community and at home. The children and the school administration are thrilled by the work being done and very excited to use the new facility.
